Friday, Oct. 12, marked the eighth annual Foothills Fall Festival in Maryville, Tenn. Each year, thousands of people flock to downtown Maryville for three days of concerts, food, arts and crafts from vendors all over the country and children's adventure land for families.
The top stars in country music headline the festival each year as well. In the past, Chris Cagle, Gretchen Wilson, Trace Adkins and Alabama have graced the stage of the Maryville amphitheater, just to name a few. "We come every year, it is like a family tradition," said Monica York, a Maryville native.
This year's fall festival also had many famous headliners, including Big & Rich, Jamie O'Neal, Kellie Pickler, Little Texas, Sara Evans and Trent Tomlinson. The one big difference between the festival this October and festivals from years past is that this October's concerts were completely sold out.
"I only got in because one of my friends gave me a ticket because they could not go," said festival-attendee Kellie Young. "I am so happy that I got to see Kellie Pickler because she was incredible."
During the concerts, Little Texas announced that they have a new album coming out this week and that they are back on the road after their break, an announcer introduced Jamie O'Neal as Jamie Evans, and Big & Rich gave two little girls from the audience guitars as prizes for answering one question correctly, "Why do people like Big & Rich so much?" The two little girls just shrugged their shoulders. "That's right," said Big Kenny, "Nobody knows why people like Big & Rich so much."
Downtown Maryville was full for the entire three days of festival; full of laughter, screams, the smell of fried food and applause for the performers. "I am never disappointed when I come, and this year was particularly great because Trent Tomlinson was so hot," said Hannah York, a repeat concert-goer. "I am so happy he took his shirt off."
