Volleyball wins at home again

Despite good defense, Bucs pull out a win against Radford

Wednesday night the Lady Bucs volleyball team took on Radford University representing the Big South Conference. The Bucs and the Highlanders started off evenly with the first game going back and forth to a 26-26 tie.
The Bucs were lead by Callie Kiselich who had eight kills. The Bucs won the game in dramatic fashion with a final score of 28-30.
The second game featured Whitney Cogburn leading all setters with 13. Radford however, gave the team an early lead bringing the score to 18-15.
The Bucs tied the game at 20-20 due to the strong serving of Kaena Apana and Marissa Mortensen. The Bucs didn't look back winning the second game 30 -25.
After the intermission, the Highlanders really started to frustrate the Bucs' strikers. The Highlanders were very strong on the defensive end blocking four spikes.
The Highlanders were able to hold the Bucs to a .020 attacking percentage in route to a 30-23 loss for the Bucs.
The fourth game saw the Bucs rebound strong. The Bucs were strong all game boasting a .130 attacking percentage and holding the Highlanders to a -.024 attacking percentage. Early in the game Amanda Youell came in and provided the Bucs with her strong setting.
The Bucs took the early lead with senior Apana serving well. Radford fought hard back into the game but it was not enough. The Bucs won the game 30-26, winning the series 3 -1.
After the game Coach Lindsey Devine was elated while talking about her mids saying that they played extremely well.
She was also very proud of Marissa Mortensen's versatility since this is the third position she has played this year getting the start Wednesday as an OH.
She was also very happy to get Youell back in the game since her playing time has lessened due to an injury. Callie Kiselich had a fantastic series and with 18 total kills and a series high .385 attacking percentage.
She said that it this was a great non-conference win for the team and that she was really looking for opportunities to hit around the frustrating Radford blockers.
She was very adamant about encouraging the student body to come out and support the volleyball team against Kennesaw St. and Mercer on Nov. 2 and 3 for senior week.
