On Nov. 11, Josh Goforth, a native of Madison County N.C. and an ETSU alumnus, will return to perform a concert hosted by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, ETSU's music fraternity, to help the wind ensemble go to Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Goforth began playing piano in his church at the age of four and became interested in country and bluegrass music after starting middle school. His uncle gave him a guitar to play with and after learning that he moved onto the mandolin, bass, banjo, fiddle, and over ten other instruments. He is even now considered a "Master Fiddler."
He attended ETSU as a music major and member of the Bluegrass and Country Music Program graduating in 2002. He is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He also participated in many festivals as part of the ETSU Bluegrass Band which even released a CD, ETSU Bluegrass Pride, in September 2001.
Josh's acoustic tours have taken him to almost every state in the U.S. and over 15 different countries. He has played on many famous stages of all sizes such as Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center and the Grand Ole Opry. He has performed with many big names such as Nickel Creek, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ricky Skaggs, David Holt, and the Josh Goforth Band. His band performs a large variety of bluegrass and acoustic music from their original songs to even pop songs.
Goforth has been teaching private lessons for 12 years now and lectures at colleges and universities not only in the U.S., but around the world also. Tickets for his Veteran's Day performance are on sale Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Culp Center near the Atrium from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or by calling the music department at 439-4276. Tickets will be on sale for $5 until Nov. 11. Go to www.myspace.com/joshgoforthmusic to check it out.

Josh also has a main gig as the fiddler with Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road, not mentioned above. More on that here - http://www.herald-dispatch.com/life/x945770014/Jordan-and-Carolina-Road-Return-To-Opry-House
