The Carroll Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University is looking for volunteers to serve in various aspects of clerical support and educational programming, as well as those willing to work with the museum's 20,000 artifacts. Individuals may volunteer from five to 20 hours each week.
"The Reece has a proud history of shared community involvement," notes facility director Theresa Burchett. "Museums reflect the vibrancy of a community, and the Reece is no different in this regard. Volunteers are an integral part of our work."
Clerical support involves assisting with mailings, filing, scheduling, planning visits and events, and other general office duties. Educational programming includes leading tours, outreach to schools, and assisting in the development of new adult and youth programs. Curatorial work affords hands-on opportunities to learn conservation best practices and "connect" artifacts to community stories.
"We believe in lifelong learning," Burchett said. "There are no unimportant tasks in museum work and volunteering only requires a desire and willingness to learn something new."
ETSU's Reece Museum is located on Gilbreath Drive adjacent to Nicks Hall. Three parking spaces for volunteers and visitors are reserved at the museum's east end. Regular hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday.
For more information, contact the Reece Museum at (423) 439-4392 or reecemus@etsu.edu.
