Review demeaning
Issue date: 2/23/09 Section: Letters to Editor
Dear Editor,
I recently read the review on the movie "He's Just Not That Into You" by Chassidy Doane and must admit that I found her inaccurate generalizations to be demeaning toward any woman with a working brain.
First, women do not go watch movies to understand how relationships work. Rational human beings know that most movies and books are dramatized for entertainment purposes and not to be a source of credible information portraying love or relationships.
Secondly, most women who are capable of higher order thought processing comprehend why a man does not return your calls or cheats on you.
If an individual, of either sex, engages in a situation where they are trying to seduce a married person, or they have a tendency to have sex with anything with two legs, then unless they are severely delusional they understand why members of the opposite sex are not going to be interested in keeping them around long term.
It is common sense and therefore her article has furthered the stereotype that women are overly emotional creatures that cannot engage in rational thought, much like the film seems to do, so thank you both (sarcasm).
There are a lot of women out there who are not obsessed with getting married or being in a relationship for that matter.
We are not a bunch of schoolgirls crying when a man doesn't call.
We are strong, independent and get annoyed when people perpetuate such antiquated stereotypes.
