ETSU honored in competition for film
Issue date: 2/23/09 Section: News
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) recently honored East Tennessee State University with CASE District III recognition in the 2008 competition.
Competing in the category of "Films and Videotapes," ETSU was named the Grand Award winner, chosen from a field that included entries submitted by Duke University's Duke Medicine, Emory University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Central Florida.
The winning entry is a five-minute video entitled "ETSU-Why?" The video shows the interdependent roles of students, faculty, staff and private donors in building ETSU's success. The piece was produced by ETSU President Dr. Paul E. Stanton Jr.; the ETSU Foundation and its board chairwoman Leslie Parks Pope; the Office of Advancement, including Dr. Richard A. Manahan, the vice president for University Advancement and ETSU Foundation president/CEO, Jeremy B. Ross, Jeff Anderson and Robert M. Plummer; and Martin R. Fitzgerald of the university's Digital Media Program.
In addition, ETSU earned a Special Merit Award in the category of "Constituency Organizations Programs" for "Graduation Celebration: Real World 101," credited to Stanton, Pope, Manahan, Plummer, Anderson, Ross, the ETSU Alumni Association with Dorothy L. Grisham as its president, the ETSU Foundation, and the Office of University Advancement.
The "Real World 101" program, held each semester, assists ETSU juniors and seniors in preparing for graduation by offering a wide array of services, including résumé assistance; an opportunity to order caps, gowns and commencement invitations; office etiquette tips; and even a fashion show featuring business attire.
"We are extremely proud and honored by this recognition," Stanton said. "Awards from CASE are a testimony to our ability here at ETSU to compete successfully not only with our counterparts, but also with national universities."
Manahan added: "The ETSU spirit of innovation and cooperation along with the participation of many sectors within our university and in the community were responsible for the video and the program earning CASE recognition."
