Printing money
Issue date: 3/2/09 Section: Letters to Editor
Dear Editor,
I'm writing in regards to Ms. Chassidy Doane's article "Printer Money Not Included in Tuition" published in the Feb. 26 issue of the East Tennessean. I am glad that someone is finally questioning the "printing money" that each student "gets."
However, Ms. Doane did not answer the main question many students have: "What happens to the unused money?" Of course the university never intended to benefit financially from this money, but they sure are, especially if the printing money is "not a way for the university to recoup printing costs." So where does the money really go? If it is not going to pay for paper and toner, what is it going toward? And when a student does not use their full $25, why don't they get a refund?
