'Take Back the Night' 5K road race to be held at ETSU
Issue date: 3/19/09 Section: The Scene
The annual "Take Back the Night" 5K Road Race and Walk will be held at East Tennessee State University Saturday, March 28, at 8:30 a.m.
Last year, 214 runners participated, and organizers estimate 250 runners and walkers for this year.
This race winds through the ETSU campus and the historic "Tree Streets" neighborhood and is designed to promote awareness of sexual and domestic violence against women and children.
Proceeds benefit the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) Program at Johnson City Medical Center, which provides a safe and supportive environment where survivors of sexual assault and violence can receive medical care not only for their own personal health and safety, but also for legal prosecution purposes, if they so choose.
The internationally recognized 5K road race and walk is co-sponsored by the ETSU Counseling Center and Campus Advocates Against Sexual Violence (CAASV) and is a State of Franklin Track Club (SFTC) certified King and Queen 5K race.
Registration is $12 before March 20 and $15 afterward.
On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on March 28 outside Nicks Hall at ETSU.
For registration details or more information, contact Rebecca Alexander or Kristen Dickens in the ETSU Counseling Center at (423) 439-4841 or at CAASV@etsu.edu.
Registration forms are available on the SFTC Web site, www.runtricities.org.
